Des Moines Community Educational institutions taken off SROs from its campuses in 2020, but the mom of two East Superior teenagers is collecting signatures to get them again.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Maria Uribe recalls the day a few teens have been shot outside the house of East Higher School in Des Moines.
“I hugged them, and I mentioned, ‘I’m so happy that you fellas didn’t go to school right now,'” explained Uribe, who has two teens that attend East Superior. “I was really genuinely apprehensive about absolutely everyone else.”
That worry for her children and their classmates turned into action.
“I started off the petition for stability in educational institutions, law enforcement safety in educational institutions,” she reported.
